There are plenty of things to do and places to go from your accommodation in Northumberland – but one of the best days out, especially if you have young children in tow, has to be paying Alnwick Castle a visit.
Why, you ask? Because Alnwick Castle just so happens to be the very place that masqueraded as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the first two Harry Potter films, which makes it absolutely perfect to take your kids to so they can experience some of the magic themselves. You can even go on a few broomstick training sessions so you’re ready for your next quidditch match!
And on select dates throughout the year, you and your family will be able to meet lots of Potter-inspired characters at the castle – and you’re even encouraged to come in your own costumes, so make sure you pack these before setting off on your trip to Northumberland this year.
Even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, the castle – one of the most iconic to be found in Britain – may well look familiar, since it’s been on the big screen almost more times than we can count. Other films to add to its list of credits include Elizabeth, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Ivanhoe, The Spaceman and King Arthur, Mary, Queen of Scots and Becket.
As for TV, it’s also featured in the likes of Downton Abbey, Countryfile, The Famous Five, The Antiques Road Show and even the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
You’re sure to have a wonderful time exploring the castle and what it has to offer. We guarantee you’ll all be clamouring to come back time and time again!
