Plans have been put forward to create a giant elf village on the grounds of Alnwick Gardens, with the Duchess of Northumberland explaining that the settlement would be constructed in a forest clearing and have an “unearthly, quirky and magical atmosphere”.
According to Chronicle Live, the attraction would be named Lilidorei Play Village and would feature a large play structure at its heart.
The Duchess added that it’s been her dream to create an elfic village in Northumberland for years, and she’s particularly keen to make sure it’s truly magical at Christmas.
She told the news provider that, should the plans get the go ahead, a lot of work would go into creating a festive wonderland in the winter.
“We want to give children an experience they will never forget at Christmas and to make Alnwick a place that everybody comes to at Christmas,” she stated.
However, there have been some hurdles to the project, particularly in terms of financing. The local council is wrangling over whether to provide the Duchess with an £8.5 million loan to finance the construction.
One of its major draws is that it featured as Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter movies, which means it’s especially enthralling to visit with children.
However, it has appeared in numerous TV shows and movies over the years, including Downton Abbey, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Ivanhoe.
