If you are holidaying in one of the places to stay near Langley Castle in Northumberland this Guy Fawkes Night, there is an ideal opportunity to enjoy some flaming good fun for all the family.
The Hexham Round Table Bonfire and Fireworks Event is being held at The Sele park in Hexham, just seven miles away from Haydon Bridge along the A69.
The event begins at 6pm on Saturday 5th November, with the bonfire being lit at 6.30 and the fireworks display commencing at 7pm.
Entertainment will be provided by The Sunshine Panners of Haydon Bridge and the A Batida de Rua samba drummers from Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham. Refreshments will be available from stalls run by local charities.
There is also a Best Dressed Guy competition for children aged 18 and under. This year’s theme is Star Wars, and the results will be announced at 6pm. For more details, rules and entry forms,check out the website..
Now in its 60th year, the Round Table Bonfire and Firework Event is extremely popular, and has been known to draw crowds of up to 12,000 people on a good night. The event is self-funded, with all profits being shared between local charities.
The Sele itself is of local historical interest. The land was property of Hexham Abbey until its dissolution in 1537. The park was opened to the public in 1753 by Sir Walter Blackett, owner of the Hexham estate, and was landscaped to include footpaths and newly-planted trees.
